What is the Wheel of Life?
The Wheel of Life (also called the Life Balance Wheel) is a visual assessment tool that divides your life into key areas and asks you to rate your satisfaction in each one. It was popularized by Paul J. Meyer, founder of the Success Motivation Institute, and has become a staple in coaching and personal development.
The power of the wheel is its simplicity: in 2 minutes, you get a clear picture of where your life is off-balance. Most people sense something is wrong but can't pinpoint what. The wheel makes the invisible visible.
The 8 life areas
Rate each area from 1 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (fully thriving). Be honest — this is for you, not for anyone else.

How to use your results
- 1
Find the lowest area
Your lowest-scoring area is usually dragging other areas down. A career score of 3 often affects health, relationships, and finances too.
- 2
Find the biggest gap
Compare where you are vs. where you want to be. The area with the largest gap is where focused effort will create the most change.
- 3
Pick one area to focus on
Don't try to fix everything at once. Choose the one area that, if improved, would have the biggest ripple effect on everything else.
- 4
Reassess monthly
The wheel is a snapshot, not a permanent score. Retake it monthly to track progress and catch new imbalances early.
Why balance matters more than perfection
The goal isn't to score 10 in every area — that's impossible. The goal is balance. A life where every area is at 6-7 often feels better than one where career is 10 but health is 2.
The wheel helps you see the trade-offs you're making — often unconsciously. Maybe you've been pouring everything into career at the expense of relationships. Maybe you've been so focused on others that personal growth has stalled. Seeing the full picture is the first step to choosing differently.
